That moment changed her forever, and it left a mark on me, too. I grew up watching her carry the guilt of that night, even though there was nothing she could have done. She blamed herself for something she couldn’t control, and that guilt stayed with her. Writing Saving Charity Nash was my way of giving her—and those children—a better ending.
Charity Nash is inspired by my mother’s strength, heart, and pain. Charity, like my mother, is flawed, broken, and haunted, but she’s also determined, resilient, and willing to risk everything to save others.
